As Chief Executive Mark Lloyd continues training for his upcoming ultramarathon as part of the Salmon Run, several members of our staff are lacing up their own running shoes.
As a team, employees have signed up to run a few miles each, totalling 43 miles, to show their support for Mark on this momentous challenge; a challenge that brings to light the issues that our rivers and Atlantic salmon are facing. Running alongside Team GB Rower and Olympian Graeme Thomas, Mark will see these great challenges firsthand, from long and fragmented migratory journeys to pollution and warming waters.
Donate to the cause
With every step, Mark will raise vital funds for The Rivers Trust, supporting our ongoing mission to restore and protect rivers alongside our network of local Trusts. Donations make a real difference by enabling us to continue advocating for rivers, helping us develop essential tools, like our sewage map, engaging with communities and allowing us to support our Movement of over 65 local Trusts who directly restore our rivers on the ground.
“Healthy rivers matter to all of us and is why so many of us at The Rivers Trust wanted to find a way to actively support this huge challenge. Mark’s commitment highlights just how far we need to go to protect our rivers and species like Atlantic Salmon. By each running a couple of miles in our local green and blue spaces, we hope to not only support Mark but to also reinforce the message that our rivers and the species that rely on them need so much more.”

The Salmon Run
The Salmon Run is a combination of community celebration, festival and short and long runs along the River Exe highlighting the epic journey of the critically endangered Atlantic salmon from sea to spawning grounds, over 43 miles from Exmouth to Dulverton, Exmoor. Its aim is to connect communities in cities, towns and villages along the river to learn about and protect this remarkable endangered species and learn about its journey and significance for our river and culture.
This event is organised by Tidelines and supported by Westcountry Rivers Trust and The Rivers Trust, Friends of the River Exe, Exmoor National Park, Wild Running and Sideshore Community. Tidelines carefully and creatively reweaves the relationships between people, river, estuary and coastline at a time of climate and nature crisis.
