Are you an experienced conservation professional with the leadership skills to shape large-scale river and catchment projects? We are looking for a Conservation Manager to lead phase 1 of our new project: Reconnecting & Reviving the Caldew, supported by a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
This role is initially offered as a full-time, 18-month contract, with the opportunity to extend.
During phase 1, you will work with farmers, landowners, partners and local communities to develop ambitious riparian and habitat improvement projects and write a capital bid that, over a further five years, will deliver a phased programme of small and large-scale projects that deliver real impact to rivers, wildlife and people across the Caldew catchment.
This role could be for you if you:
- Have a degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline, backed up with in-depth technical knowledge and 5 years plus experience of developing and delivering large-scale habitat improvement projects on privately owned land,
- Are confident managing budgets, reporting to funders and developing fundable project proposals, and
- Are an effective people manager and a persuasive communicator who can build trust with farmers, landowners and partners.
This is an opportunity to play a leading role in shaping the future of riparian conservation in the Upper Caldew. You will join a committed team working to create healthier rivers, thriving wildlife and to inspire and empower communities across Cumbria. We offer 33 days’ paid leave, including bank holidays, a contributory pension, life assurance, mileage expenses and the tools you need to do the job.
